The Global Fund denounces scams falsely implying association with The Global Fund

Various scam emails or websites purporting or implying to be from or associated with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (The Global Fund), have been disseminated on the Internet. Some of these scams are related to the marketing of health products, often with the pretense of curing HIV/AIDS or other diseases and being endorsed by The Global Fund, some request detailed information and/or money from individuals, businesses or non-profit organizations with the promise that they will receive funds or other benefits in return; others ask for registration fees for conferences allegedly sponsored by The Global Fund and for hotel reservations, again with the promise of certain benefits.

These emails and websites sometimes carry the Global Fund name or logo, and emanate from or refer to an email address or internet domain name which is made to look like a Global Fund, World Health Organization or United Nations address. These emails do not emanate from The Global Fund, and are not in any way associated with events or programs funded by The Global Fund.

The Global Fund wishes to warn the public of these misleading practices, and suggests that recipients of materials such as those described above (whether sent by email, visible on a website or communicated in any other way) verify their authenticity before assuming their content is authentic. In particular, The Global Fund suggests that recipients do not send money or personal information in response to invitations from anyone who claims to be awarding funds, grants, scholarships, certificates, lottery winnings, or prizes, and/or who requests payment for registration fees and hotel rooms reservations, in the name of The Global Fund. It is not the Global Fund policy to charge for attendance at meetings. Furthermore, The Global Fund does not endorse specific commercial ventures or products and allow its name and logo to be used as endorsement of such products or services.

If you have any doubts about the authenticity of a website, email, letter or phone call purportedly from, for or on behalf of The Global Fund, please email us at . The Global Fund is trying to put a halt to these misleading practices, and we would therefore greatly appreciate your help in bringing suspect activities to our attention.
