Dell + Windows launch at Davos
Bono, co-founder of (RED), Bill Gates, founder and Chairman of Microsoft and Michael Dell, founder and Chairman of Dell, together at the World Economic Forum announce that Dell and Microsoft are joining (RED) to help fight AIDS in Africa, with the introduction of a series of Dell (PRODUCT)RED personal computers powered by Windows Vista Ultimate (PRODUCT)RED.

(PRODUCT)RED was created to engage the private sector in the fight against AIDS in order to deliver a sustainable flow of funds to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and to raise public awareness about HIV/AIDS in Africa. Companies whose products take on the (PRODUCT)RED mark contribute a portion of profits from the sale of that product to Global Fund financed programs in Africa. So far PRODUCT(RED) partners have raised more than $63 million, which is already at work as part of Global Fund grants in Ghana, Rwanda and Swaziland.

Current partners include American Express, Apple, Converse, Dell-Windows, Emporio Armani, Gap, Hallmark and Motorola.

(PRODUCT)RED is the first time that the world's leading companies have made a joint commitment to channel a percentage of profits to assist in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic, which kills more than two million people every year. It has become one of the largest consumer-based income-generating initiatives by the private sector for an international humanitarian cause.
